CLIFFORD WARREN HAYES
August 10, 1933 – November 28, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cliff at Central Haven in Saskatoon. Born in Moose Jaw, SK to Clara and William Hayes, he was raised on the family farm just north of town on Hwy 2. He was predeceased by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Wilma and Don Dawson. Cliff is survived by his wife Dorcas, sons William of Regina, Stewart (Ruth Power) of London, ON, daughter Patricia (Rick Schryer) of Saskatoon, his grandchildren Moira, Brenna and Theresa Hayes and Aimée, Céline and Elyse Schryer, niece Donna (Bruno Sculli) and nephew Jerry Dawson (Linda). In 1944 the family moved to Moose Jaw where Cliff finished grade 12 before getting his B.Sc. in Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. Cliff returned to Moose Jaw to farm and work at Robin Hood as a purchasing agent. After being 100% hailed out in July 1956 he returned to the U of S to do a M.Sc. in Agriculture. It was at the university that he met Dorcas McRae, the love of his life. They married in October 1956 and enjoyed 61 years together. He enjoyed his work in Agriculture. Cliff worked at Gallowhur Chemicals, Searle Grain, Federal Grain, Federated Co-op and Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan. Cliff was hard working, dedicated and famous for his sense of humour. At PCS he enjoyed giving mine tours to international clients who he regaled with his knowledge and experiences of the prairies and his jokes. He was active in a number of associations including Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame, Northwest Commercial Travellers and Meewasin Rotary. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. When his children were young they camped every summer, played frisbee, swam and played cards. He was a great cook at the Boy Scout summer camps and spent many hours over 45 years bringing joy to children and adults as Santa. Cliff and Dorcas enjoyed travelling with Rambling Rovers and snow bird friends. They were active with pattern, square and round dancing, golf and curling. A Celebration of Cliff’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 22, 2017 at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor St. E.) in Saskatoon.
