David Charles Lord
David passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, Canada on September 23rd, 2017 at the age of 86. He was admired, respected & loved by colleagues, friends & family alike in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and his original home country of Jamaica. David was born at Roseneath in the parish of St. Catherine in Jamaica. He was a highly successful Business Executive heading up, at the pinnacle of his career, such well known Jamaican enterprises as Carreras (Jamaica) Ltd [at that point in time - one of the largest & well diversified companies in Jamaica] and Myers Fletcher & Gordon [one of the country’s largest and most highly respected legal firms]. David’s primary passion was work but he still found time to give back to his beloved country through extensive involvements with Government Boards (such as the Banana Board and the Sugar Manufacturers Association) and Health Care organizations (such as Hyacinth Lightbourne), to provide counsel and support to his extended family members whenever in need, to be a devoted father to his three sons and to be a dedicated husband to his wife, Janet, for over 62 years. David is survived by two sons - Colin (Kit) of Plantation, Florida and Mark (Tanya) of Saskatoon, Canada; five grandchildren - Christopher (Danielle), Matthew, Nicole, Jason & Stephanie; one great grandchild - Landon; one brother - Michael (Shirley) of Wales, U.K.; as well as many other special cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife – Janet, who died in Canada at the age of 81; son - David Allan (Bunny) Lord - who died of leukemia in Jamaica at age 5; parents - Allan & Winifred Lord; and sister - Helen (Skiss) Newell. In accordance with their expressed wishes the ashes of David (and Janet) will ultimately be returned to Jamaica by members of the family and interred close to the remains of their youngest son, Bunny. The family is particularly grateful to the staff of the Porteous Lodge care home as well as St. Paul’s Hospital (both of Saskatoon) for their care, compassion and love over the course of the past 2 ½ years. Donations in lieu of flowers or gifts may be made to the Jubilee Residences Foundation, 25 - 2602 Taylor Street E, Saskatoon, SK, Canada S7H 1X2.
