James William ‘Bill’ Hughes

Bill passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.  He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne (Richards) of 63 years; daughter Beverley McLeod and her children David, Kenneth and Matthew; son Arthur (Shelley) and their children Patricia, Nicholas and Katherine; daughter Donna (Lorne) Valuck and their children, Tyral, Amy, Bethany and Joshua; 10 great grandchildren; sister Joyce Norris; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.  Bill was predeceased by his parents Colin and Margaret (Cole) Hughes; sisters-in-law Dorothy Richards and Shirley Richards and brother-in-law Warren Norris.  Bill was born April 10, 1932 in Moose Jaw, SK.  Bill started his working career with the Bank of Nova Scotia with Yvonne by his side and as the family grew they embarked on an adventurous life through many postings in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  Eventually settling in Shellbrook, Bill bought an SGI agency, retiring in 1994.  Bill was a loving, kind and generous man, solid in his faith and compassion for others.  He loved outdoor life, especially fishing, golfing and camping and being surrounded by family and friends.  He was an excellent gardener, woodworker and woodcarver.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 5th, 2018 at Windsor Chapel, 704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon. Special gratitude to Dr. Paul Hartman and Laurie, his Palliative Care Nurse for their kind and compassionate care as well as doctors, nurses and staff at St. Paul’s Palliative Care Ward.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Teen Challenge.
