Lillian Jane Marquis (nee DIEHL)

Lillian passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Sunday, October 1, 2017. Mom was born to Harry and Jane (Guillet) Diehl on the farm near Marcelin, SK on November 4, 1932. She was the second youngest of 9 children in a family of 6 boys and 3 girls. The girls were the youngest of the family and as the boys grew and left the farm, mom learned to do the chores that kept the farm running.   Lillian’s education was limited by her responsibilities at home, and her dream of becoming a nurse eventually led to her work as a nurse’s aid at Oliver Lodge. In the meanwhile she married, raised 3 children, was a tireless worker, ran a small hotel business, kept a spotless home and was a wonderful cook and baker. Lillian retired with her husband George to their cottage where they spent 20 years living the good life. She hunted, caught many large fish, played cards, canned, produced beautiful needlework, made many a family dinner, and entertained the grandkids. She was never idle. Lillian lived most recently in Saskatoon at Elim Lodge where she made many dear friends. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George; children Lorraine (Michael), Len (Sherri) and Carol; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister Rose (Claire); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers and a sister. Mom was grateful for the life she lived and accepted her prognosis with grace and courage. The family thanks the Community Palliative Care team including nurses, especially Maryann and Donna, Home Care staff, CPAS, Community OT and PT, and Dr. Dattani. We thank the Elim Lodge family for their love and support and Holy Spirit Parish for their spiritual care. Lillian’s faith sustained her throughout her life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place) in Saskatoon. Memorial donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Home Care - Palliative Care (1702 – 20th St. W. Saskatoon, SK  S7M 0Z9) or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Chelsea Krentz - Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306-978-5200).
