Rebecca Francis-Elder

January 31, 2018

Rebecca Jean Francis-Elder

Rebecca passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Saskatoon. Becky Chadwick, born February 22, 1941, was the adored child of Phyllis and Ted Chadwick of North Battleford. After pursuing a degree in Social Work, Rebecca became the independent mother of three children; she raised them as she worked from child protection services through to day care. During that time, she also obtained a Master’s degree from UBC in Social Work; her career later took her to Indian Affairs in Calgary, followed by many years with the Meadow Lake and Saskatoon Tribal councils. Among many accomplishments, Rebecca was instrumental in the creation of White Buffalo Youth Lodge. Ultimately though, she was instrumental in inspiring vision and passion in everyone she met, teaching us how to love fiercely and unconditionally; showing us how to live gracefully and non-judgmentally; reminding us to laugh and be grateful. Rebecca is mourned by a multitude of friends and family. She leaves behind her son Craig Francis (Anja) and grandchildren Amelie, Samuel, Emmet; her much loved daughter Gillian Strange (Butch) and grandson Jacob; her cherished son Paul Francis (Keiko) and grandsons Peter and Jack; her cousin and heart sister Janet Dempsey (David), as well as many honorary siblings and children who she welcomed open-armed into her beautiful world. A Celebration of Becky’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Albert Community Centre (610 Clarence Ave. S.) in Saskatoon. If you would like to mark her passing with a gesture, please bring a single flower to the celebration and we will build together the bouquets that she adored. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
