Josephine Cechanowicz
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing on April 14 of our loving mother, Josephine, at 92 years of age. Josephine has gone to join her husband Adam; her son, Admund; her parents, Julia and Joseph Tarkiewicz; and her numerous siblings. Josephine was born the youngest of 13 children on December 25, 1919, in the village of Ludwikow, Poland. She lost her father very early in life and was raised by her mother and siblings. By 1938 both her parents had died and she remained on the farm with her brother, Andrew to farm the homestead she grew up on. With the German occupation of Poland, Josephine was subjected to forced farm labour in West Germany. After the war's end she lived in a refugee camp for two years before immigrating to Canada in 1948. Josephine married Adam on January 14, 1950 at St. Mary's Parish and they spent 49 years building a life together in Saskatoon. Josephine was a devoted loving mother of four, a practical homemaker, and a natural gardener. She was an environmentalist before it became popular and an organic gardener carrying on traditions she brought with her to Canada. Her family and friends shared in the abundant bounty of her fruitful garden. She had a special bond with nature and a steadfast trust and love of God. Josephine was personified by her kind words of "thank you, God bless you, and I love you." Left to celebrate her life are her children Elaine (Rick Kostiuk) and Rick's sons Rick (Jen) and Andrew (Megan). Ed (Rosanne) and grandsons Jared (Stephanie) and Evan (Carma). Elsa (Ross) Chalmers and granddaughter, Riane (Daxon). Special thank you to Dr. Szott, Dr. Duval, Dr, Berscheid, Dr. Spelay, and the caring nurses and staff of OBS. rm. 514, St. Paul's Hospital. A heartfelt thanks goes to Sr. Carol Borreson. The Vigil for Josephine will be held on Wednesday, April 18th, at 8:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday April 19th. Both services to be held at St. Mary's Parish, (211 Ave. O South). Following the reception, Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery - Catholic Section. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Parish. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - Mourning Glory Funeral Services (978-5200). www.mourningglory.ca
