Joseph Louis Eugene Bourgeois WW11 Army Veteran, Calgary Highlanders, passed away peacefully, May 19th, 2012 in his 86th year at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon with his family by his side. Cherished father of son, Brande; daughter, Jollean and son, Tremain. Dear Grandfather of Kevan, Toresa and Kory Bardell, Jocelan and Korby, (Gina) Ireland, Ryan (LeeAnn ) Tanner. Loving Great Grandfather to Rave and Madyx Tanner, Jesica and Jack Harry, Wyatt and Dalton Bardell. Dad was born June 29th, 1925, in the R.M. of Grey, Manitoba to Philibert and Camilla (nee Poirier) Bourgeois the 4th child of nine children. Predeceased by father, Philibert (1952) and mother, Camilla (1957); brothers, Sid, Medric, Edmond, Gillis and Joe; and sisters, Theresa and Rose. He is survived by one brother, Charles (Blanche) of Haywood, Manitoba; and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the States and the British Isles. Dad was educated in Haywood Manitoba and joined the Army at the young age of seventeen, was overseas for four years, where in England, he met and married the Love of his Life, Catherine McDermott, of Northern Ireland, they were blessed with three children. Till his dying day he referred to "Kay" as "the most beautiful girl in the world". Dad worked in the Oilfields and road construction (Bodkins) in a supervisory position for many years, and had a Mail Route in later years. Our Dad was a kind and loving man with a great sense of humour and compassion for mankind, many times picking up hitchhikers and giving them twenty dollars, if their story sounded particularly bleak. He loved the outdoors, being an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days. Dad appreciated many of the smaller moments in life, enjoying the sky at sunset, birds singing, colours of the flowers in the garden, the laughter of his grandchildren, the things we often take for granted in our busy lives. His retirement years took him to Greenwood B.C where he enjoyed his many friends ,for wherever life took Dad ,he always extended his hand in friendship. An avid driver, he took great pleasure in his many car trips throughout Canada and the States especially enjoying his trip to Inuvik with his brother, Sid. The warmth of his smile and the kindness of his heart will live on in our memories forever. We were blessed to have had him in our world and will miss him more than he will ever know. Love leaves a memory no one can steal, and death leaves a heartache only God can heal as we loved him so, we miss him. A Private Family Rite of Committal was held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Veterans' "Field of Honor" section. The Family extends a special thank-you to Helen, Pat and Daphne of House 11, Veterans' Village , Sherbrooke Nursing Home, Saskatoon, for their kindness and quality care of our Dad. Dad enjoyed people and good food. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Bank or the S.S.P.C.A.
