It is with deep profound sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Allan John Hyde, who passed away peacefully at St. Anne’s Senior Citizens Village on June 13, 2012 due to his battle with cancer.  Dad was 85 years old.  He is remembered for his love for his wife Monica and family.  Dad is survived by his children, Allan (Jo Ann), Randall (Brenda), Loranna (Gordon), Patrick (Joanne) and David (Dorothy).  He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Henry Hyde and Alice Agnes (O`Connor); older brothers, Herbert and Percy and two sisters, before dad was born.  He leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dad and mom were married on February 18, 1950 and this past February they celebrated their 62nd Anniversary.  Dad was devoted to caring for and faithfully standing by our mom through her ongoing battle with dementia.  Dad personally cared for mom as long as he could, at the expense of his own health, until mom was placed into the care of St. Ann’s.  Shortly after that dad moved into his suite at St Ann’s so that he could be faithfully at her side throughout each day.  In February he was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and was admitted to the same level IV care.  He continued to tend to mom daily as best as he could.  Their shared joy was their family and his greatest joy was to experience the growth, wellbeing and success of his family.  He took great joy in celebrating the arrival and growth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Dad was born in Eureka, Montana because at the time his dad was a Canadian Customs Officer and the closest hospital was across the border in Eureka.  He grew up in Vancouver, where he and mom were married after meeting in mom’s hometown of Muenster SK.  Mom and dad started their lives together in Vancouver where their first born arrived and dad worked for CP Rail.  After several years they moved to Kamloops, BC and Randy was born here.  After a short stint in the Canadian Army Reserves in 1956 dad permanently joined the Canadian Armed Forces with his first posting in Victoria, where Loranna was born.  The CAF would become the greatest joy of his working career.  In the years following his military service he spoke very fondly and proudly of his experiences in the CAF.  He was a Quartermaster in the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps and achieved the rank of Sergeant before his mandatory retirement in 1977.  Throughout his career dad was stationed in Kamloops, Victoria and Chilliwack BC, Soest West Germany, back to Chilliwack and finally to Saskatoon.  The highlight of his career were the four years spent with his family while stationed in Soest, West Germany as part of the Canadian commitment to NATO. Patrick was born in Iserlohn.  While there dad drove many mile as the family travelled extensively and experienced the many different countries and culture.  Upon the family’s return to Chilliwack the baby of the family, David, was born.  In 1968 dad proudly served for six months in Cyprus attached to the United Nations peacekeeping forces and in 1969 dad had his last posting to Saskatoon.  After his military career dad took his training and experience to work briefly with Bristol Aerospace Limited and then his remaining years before retirement in 1991 as the Storekeeper for Buildings & Grounds at the U of S.  After his retirement dad spent his years devoted to his growing family and enjoyed the experiences of life with those he loved.  Vigil for Allan will be held on at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday June 17th and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 18th with Rev. Fr. Albert Ulrich, OMI presiding.  Both services will take place at the Chapel at St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village (2910 Louise Street).  Cremation Rite of Committal will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  The family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village for their devotion and tender loving care of our dad.  The staff became part of his extended family and he spoke very highly of his many new friends.  He loved you all and was very thankful for the continuing care provided to mom.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village, 2910 Louise St, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8.  Arrangements in care of David Schurr – MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200)
