LORRAINE ELIZABETH FRIE (nee Kurtenbach)
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine on Sunday July 8, 2012, four days short of her 88th birthday. She is loved and remembered by her three daughters, Adele (Mike) Giblin, Marleen (Ken) Florizone, Yvette (Ted) Saxinger; grandchildren, Brad (Jenny) Giblin, Kaydence and Jackson; Travis (Trista) Giblin, Luke; Brett Florizone (Joanna); Ryan (Colleen) Florizone; Kristin and Ian Saxinger. Surviving Lorraine are her two brothers, Jim (Elaine) and Earl Kurtenbach; sister, Marjorie Schmid; brothers-in-law, Jim and Art Frie (Annette); sisters-in-law, Florence Hessdorfer and Kathleen Phillips (Tom) as well as many nieces, nephews and seven godchildren. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Elmer in 2003; infant son, Wayne; parents, Fritz and Helen Kurtenbach; Elmer’s parents, Mina and Henry Frie and in-laws, Wilfred Schmid, Wilfred and Dorothy Diederich, Mervin Hessdorfer, Steve Dettillieux, MaryAnn Frie and Sylvester Frie. Lorraine was born July 12, 1924 in Cudworth. She attended school at St. Benedict School. She moved to Winnipeg for a short period of time and returned to Cudworth. She married Elmer Frie on Oct.18, 1948 and they lived on the farm until 1969 when they moved into Cudworth. In 1982 after they retired from farming, they moved into Saskatoon. Lorraine always loved her garden produce and her flowers. She always put her family first. She loved sewing for her three girls when they were young. Christmas 2001, she knit scarves "for all her girls". Her face lit up and she loved getting to hold and talk to the new great grandbabies. At 81 her children taught her to use the computer and she spent many hours on facebook and her emails. She enjoyed many fishing trips with her family. She was active in the Cudworth St. Michael’s and Saskatoon Holy Spirit Catholic Women’s League, St. Ann’s Nursing Home Auxiliary and spent countless hours volunteering. Elmer and Lorraine bowled together, traveled to many parts of the United States, Canada and Hawaii. At age 80, she enjoyed her trip to Ireland. She cherished her 4 trips in 3 years to visit Marleen and Ken in Chicago. Vigil for Lorraine will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 11, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 12th. Both services at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place). Rite of Committal to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Dr. Barbara Anderson for her care of Mom. Her girls would like to extend many thanks to the compassionate staff and her friends at Columbian Manor. We would like to thank all her friends for keeping her updated with "What's new?" Mom we will miss you, thank you for all you did for us. You were our angel all these years, teaching us through your example of being a devoted wife and mom. Love you, Adele, Marleen, and Yvette.
