Alma Mary Schurr

January 22, 1927 - February 18, 2018

At home, surrounded by family and encircled with immeasurable love, our mother passed from her earthly life into Glory. Mom will be dearly missed by her children: Dianna (Butch), daughter Kristina; Carol (Gary); Myrna (Jim), children Michael, Jenna (Chris), Amy (Grady), Trevar; Barb (Darrell), children Jonny (Mandy), Kendra (Kyle); Brenda (Gregg), children Danny (Marla), Clayton (Sarah); Kelly (Laurie), Kelly’s daughter Olivia; Joanne (Ralph), children Dana, Kimberley (Olivier); 8 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by Bennie, the love of her life; infant daughter Wendy; brothers Harold (Betty) and Don; sister Gladys (Bruce); sister-in-law Selma (Clair) (Mac); 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She married Dad in 1951 and after his passing in 1979, stayed on to oversee the farm operation until all the children finished school. In 1984, she moved to Saskatoon where she spent the next 33 years. Mom was everything anyone could ask for and more in a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a shining example of love, kindness, gentleness and generosity. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and mischievous twinkle in her eye. She loved her family and was so proud of every one of them and they returned that love a hundredfold. A widow at 52, she was an amazing pillar of strength and courage; assuming role of both mother and father. Mom loved knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles, playing cards or board games, especially Chinese checkers...no one beat her at that. Before marrying Dad, Mom worked as a Nurse’s Aid in Herbert. She saw three of her daughters realize her dream and become nurses as well. She was an excellent homemaker, offering goodies to everyone. Mom loved flowers and spending time admiring everyone’s yard. She gave so much of herself in the 91 years we were blessed to have her. If we had to describe our mom in one word, it would be "Angel". The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the medical team under Saskatoon’s Seniors First Program for their professional and compassionate care of mom during her last months and to Drs. Chad and Reid and special caregiver, Rena. A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Windsor Chapel, 704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon. Mom will be laid to rest next to Dad at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Ernfold Cemetery. We welcome anyone wishing to attend. Lunch to follow at the Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ernfold Cemetery Association. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
