Obituary

HESSDORFER, Alvin John

October 25, 1934 – January 12, 2020

Alvin passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Royal University Hospital, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Danny) Weselowski, Cynthia (David) Bretell; and son, Lyle. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael (Tessa), Jill (Mark), D.J. (Fiancé, Vanessa), Mark (Adrienne), Jocelyn (Michael), Cody (special friend, Tyneal Knackstedt) and Nathan (special friend, Shayna Marchuk); 8 great grandchildren; and sister, Agnes (Alvin) Stumborg. Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Jane; an infant son, John Bernard; infant granddaughter, Chelsea Amanda; parents, John and Mary Hessdorfer; sister, Burnetta Smith; and brother, Everard. Al was born on October 25, 1934 in Cudworth, SK. He grew up on a farm near St. Benedict, SK. Al married Jane on April 28, 1958 and they then moved to Saskatoon. He worked for Gulf Fuel delivering gas for 20 + years. He went from delivering fuel to delivering flowers for mom’s flower shop, Jane’s Floral Dreams. They retired together in 2000. Dad or “Big Al” as he was known to many, loved vacationing at the lake and spending time driving the boat for water skiing and tubing. A tube ride with him was a major adventure. He was so excited the summer he pulled 3 skiers out of the water with his aluminum boat. Early mornings and evenings were spent fishing and watching the squirrels and birds at the cabin at Meeting Lake. Al was always willing to help out anyone in need. He enjoyed meeting new people and spending time playing cards with the people at his condo. He enjoyed cooking at the K of C Pancake Breakfasts at St. Mary’s Parish. These breakfasts often turned into family gatherings. The family expresses a special thank you to the staff on 6100 and CCU at Royal University Hospital. Their care for Dad and their compassion towards the family was very appreciated. Memorial donations can be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
