JOHNSON, David Charles
David Charles Johnson was born on April 5, 1983 in White Rock, B.C, a third child to his parents Martin and Jill, and younger brother to Rachel and Andrew. In 1989, when he was 6 years old, the family moved to Saskatoon, SK and aside from short periods in La Ronge and Kelowna, BC, Saskatoon remained his hub and his headquarters. Still in his heart David was a country boy, in love with the great outdoors and all it contained. He loved fishing and hunting and his dogs. In the winter he loved to skidoo and in the summer he transferred that attachment to a jet ski. During his short lifetime he lived a carefree existence in small town Sask on parcels of land close to Wynyard and Dafoe, Warman, Saskatoon and finally Dundurn and Shields. He was never happier than when he was fixing something for someone, and he was usually up to his elbows in grease or underneath some vehicle. On Saturday, July 27, 2019, he drowned in Blackstrap Lake, doing what he loved to do. His family will be forever indebted to all those remarkable, kind and capable Responders who worked so hard trying first to rescue and then to recover him. They include on and off duty police, paramedics and fire fighters from Saskatoon, Shields and Dundurn, Alyssa who called 911, Alyssa who tried to save him in the water, Stars rescue helicopter and the Saskatoon police plane, along with the Manitoba and Regina Dive Teams. We would like to make special mention of Sgt. Kevin Williamson and Corporal Zwarich, RCMP Dundurn detachment, Coroner Sheila Enns, and our dear friend Tasha Smith-Altman who helped us to navigate this life passage. Left behind and mourning David’s passing are his mother Jill Beatty, step dad Larry Mitzel, father Martin Johnson (Gayle Reed), sister Rachel and her children Connor, Carter, and Cailey Johnson, brother Andrew and his son Isaac Johnson-Mickalishen, and special friends Amber, Alyssa and Jean. He was also well loved by his aunts and uncles: Jane and Gordon McMurtry; Pamela Beatty; Suellen Beatty and Tom Archibald; Les and Hilary (Johnson) Kowalski and their families. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church (111 Witney Ave. N.) in Saskatoon. A Private Family Interment will take place. No somber attire required; be comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teen Challenge, to The Bridge or to Rock Solid Refuge.
