Dennis passed away peacefully on Monday at the age of 74, in the care of the wonderful staff at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He is survived by Sylvia Delainey; his daughter, Sheri (Troy) Grant; sons, Steven (Anna) Delainey and Michael (Tara) Delainey; grandchildren: Katelyn (Anthony) Schnettler, Megan Grant, Joshua Delainey, Carter Delainey, Yzabel Delainey, Gavin Delainey; and great grandson, Jackson Schnettler. He is also survived by his brothers: John (Geraldine), Bill (Deb), Bob (Donna), Fred, Brian (Janet), and Neil (Rita). Dennis was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary; stepson, Phil Ogle; sisters-in-law, Ellen and Dawn Delainey; and nephew, Jason Delainey.
Born to William and Mary on New Year’s Day, 1945, in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Dennis was the third of seven sons. He grew up on the farm near Scott, SK, and remained a true prairie boy at heart. Dennis had many talents and would rightly be characterized as a true “handyman”. He worked for over 40 years in a profession that he loved, beginning as an Elevator Technician with Otis Elevator. He then went on to open his own business: Delainey Elevator Service Inc., which he owned and operated until he retired. Dennis had a love for tinkering and a passion for people. He found joy in the simple things in life and was a jokester at heart. He loved his family more than words could say and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
