January 1, 2019

RAUSCH, Doris Helen (nee Hutchison)

Doris was born in 1923 at Spalding, SK to Joseph and Edith Hutchison, and grew up in a loving extended family with her sister Faith and ten half-siblings, Eunice, Edith, Joyce, Violet, Ruth, Leslie, Edward, Robert, Stanley and Carmen, who predeceased her birth during his service in WWI. Doris had an active childhood in Spalding playing tennis, skating, and swimming and fishing at Lake Edward with family and friends. After high school she completed teacher’s training at Normal School in Moose Jaw, and subsequently taught in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (WD) from 1943-1945, as an aircraft plotter stationed in Vancouver, BC. In 1953 she married Edwin Rausch of Naicam, SK where they raised their three children, Janice, Murray and Margaret. Doris was very involved in the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women and her faith was deep and abiding, sustaining her throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, playing piano and singing, and she instilled her love of music in her children. In 1988 Doris moved from Naicam to Luther Tower in Saskatoon, after Edwin’s passing in 1985. She lived there for 21 years, enjoying many friends and the caring staff. In 2009 she moved to the Luther Intermediate Care Home, then to Oliver Lodge in 2015, where she passed away suddenly and peacefully on January 1, 2019 with her daughter Janice at her side. Doris will be dearly missed by her loving family: her daughters Janice Fouhse of Saskatoon, Margaret (Paul) Stalker of Guelph ON, her son Murray (Ellie) Rausch of Goodsoil SK and her sister Eunice (John) Dawson of Ottawa, ON. She is remembered by her beloved grandchildren Jonathan and Janelle Fouhse, Kyle and Eric Rausch, and her three great-grandchildren Nixynn, Rosalee and Joy Fouhse. Donations in Doris’s memory may be made to Luther Care Communities, 1212 Osler St., Saskatoon, SK S7N 0T9, or to a charity of choice. A Celebration of Doris’ Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Luther Care Communities (in the 3rd floor auditorium) located at 1212 Osler Street in Saskatoon.
