Doug Rutherford, 86, of Saskatoon passed away on October 26, 2019 at the Royal University Hospital after a short illness. Doug is survived by his daughter Terry, his son Doug and wife Josie Loor; their 3 children and one grandchild; his sister-in-law Ruth Niven and his many nieces and nephews. Doug was the last living child of William and Mary Rutherford of Sutherland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years June (nee Steve) in 2014. He was a much loved husband, father, grandpa and friend whose dry humour, generosity and gentle nature were much appreciated. His patience, skill and determination as the captain of the boat behind which 2 generations of children and adults learned to water ski at Sturgeon Lake is well remembered. The long days of fishing with tea, sandwiches and “first fishes” marked many childhoods and were his passion. He retired early from the City of Saskatoon where he was employed first as a grader operator and later as a paving foreman in 1987. He was a regular attendee of the Wednesday morning Market Mall coffees with his ex-colleagues. We are saddened by our loss but respect his decision to rejoin his beloved wife June and finally once again be “at home”. There will be a gathering at Doug’s home on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 2-4PM to honour his life. Arrangements in care of Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306)978-5200.
