February 21, 2019

SUTTON, Elizabeth (Betty)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Elizabeth Ilene Sutton. She passed away peacefully in her sleep due to complications from cancer on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Betty was born in North Battleford on July 7, 1933 to William and Annie Furniss. She graduated from high school in Wilkie, SK and completed her RN and RPN training in Edmonton and Ponoka, AB. Betty married Stanley Sutton in 1957 and worked as an RN in Regina, Swan River, Unity and Saskatoon. In 1958, Betty and Stan welcomed their daughter Valerie. The three of them, along with Betty’s sister, brother-in-law and nephews, had many happy summers travelling all over the United States. After Stan died in 1977 she decided to go back to university and graduated with a BA from the University of Manitoba. Betty moved to Saskatoon in 1988 to be close to her daughter. She enjoyed travelling, especially with her good friend Beth Hutton from Winnipeg. Betty was predeceased by her husband Stan, her parents Bill and Annie Furniss; in-laws Shirley and Ora Sutton; brother-in-law Gordon Sych; and sister-in-law Elly Furniss. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Valerie Sutton, sister Fay Sych, brother Bill Furniss, nephews Randy (Gail) Sych, Terry (Nadine) Sych, and Travis (Laura) Furniss. At Betty’s request there will be no funeral. A private family interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the care provided by Saskatoon Home Support and St. Paul’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Saskatoon SPCA.
