Father Maurice Levesque, 84, of Saskatoon, SK passed away on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019 at home. Fr. Levesque was born on May 31, 1934 in Prud'Homme, SK to Albert and Germaine (Marcotte) Levesque, the 6th of 18 children. He married Rita Denis on December 27, 1962 in St. Denis, SK. He graduated from Teacher's College, and went on to teach all grade levels, eventually serving as principal for several years. He decided to retire from teaching and move on to farming. He returned to his roots in Prud'Homme and then moved to St. Denis to be close to his wife's family. After his wife passed away in 1984, Maurice chose to enter the seminary at the age of 50 and dedicate the remainder of his life in service to the Lord. He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1989. His first Baptism was his grandson Colin and his last Baptism was his great-granddaughter Naomi (Colin's daughter). He served faithfully for thirty years and was very proud of the fact that he said 12,592 Masses during his tenure. He was most passionate about his faith and his family. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to play chess and golf. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived a life of gratitude for his blessings. Fr. Maurice Levesque is survived by his children Denis (Telisa) Levesque, William Gareau (Lise's spouse), Monique Levesque-Hartle and Fritz (Monika) Levesque, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 7 brothers, 5 sisters and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita (nee Denis) Levesque in 1984, his grandson Xavier Gareau in 2004 and his daughter Lise (Levesque) Gareau in 2018, as well as 5 brothers and several nieces and nephews. The Vigil for Fr. Maurice will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church (1902 Munroe Ave. S.) with Father Denis Phaneuf presiding. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Rd.) with Most Rev. Bishop Mark Hagemoen as the celebrant. Following the reception the Rite of Committal will take place at St. Denis Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knights of Columbus Chapel Fund, Columbian Manor, 2940 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK S7J 5K2.
