Ian Thompson Ramsey
September 11, 1969 - April 19, 2019
Peacefully and surrounded by loved ones, Ian Ramsey passed away on April 19, 2019, after a brief but aggressive illness. Ian will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his beloved son Kynan Ramsey, his mom Diane Ramsey, his sisters Clare and Kathy Ramsey, his brothers-in-law John Pacak and Patrick Ryding, and his many dear friends in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Ian will also be greatly missed by his nieces Alexis Pacak and Leni Ryding, and his nephews Thompson Ryding and Michael Pacak who adored him.
Ian was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 1970. He received a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Manitoba in 2001. Ian served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an infantry and artillery officer, before moving into the financial industry in 2010, where he worked with small business owners and colleagues with whom he formed many strong, long-lasting friendships.
There wasn't a movie Ian had not seen. He had eclectic taste in music, which he loved to play loudly from his many speakers. Ian was happiest sharing a laugh and good food with his friends and family. He was also an avid martial arts enthusiast, earning a 2nd degree black sash from Tiger Claw Kung-Fu School in Winnipeg and joining Scheer's Martial Arts in Saskatoon where he did jiu-jitsu.
A Celebration of Ian's Life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the Top of the Inn room (8th floor) at the Sheraton Cavalier Saskatoon Hotel, 612 Spadina Crescent East. Cremation has taken place. Ian's ashes will be scattered along the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, to join those of his father Ernest Ramsey, who predeceased Ian in June 2001.
We wish to thank staff at the Royal University Hospital for their compassionate care during Ian's difficult illness.
