John, age 86, passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital. He was born and raised east of Prud’homme. He married Elsie Kocay on October 28, 1956 and they were happily married for over 62 years upon John’s passing. John was employed by Saskatoon Transit for 34 years from 1958 upon his retirement in 1993. John had a passion for buying and collecting antiques and this passion led him to opening Chilliak’s Auction Service for 8 successful years with his brothers Mike and Bill. After retirement, John and Elsie loved to travel and spent many winter months driving their motor home to Arizona and Las Vegas. He also loved exploring Western Canada and they took the occasional trip to Florida and Hawaii. John cared very much for his children and always taught good values and respect for others. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest and he will be sorrowly missed by family and friends. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Elsie, sons Kim (Iris), Stewart and Carey (Tatiana), grandchildren Riley (Sandi), Brennan (Jasmine), Travis, Elizabeth and Kamilla Appazova, sisters Katie Markowski, Liz Wiebe and Roseann (Ben) Hryciuk, and brothers Peter (Vesper) and Bill (Terri). John was predeceased by his parents Dmytro and Annie (nee Popowich), sisters Mary Iwasiuk and Olga (in infancy) and brother Mike. Funeral Parastas will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St., Saskatoon). Presiding will be Rev. Fr. André Lalach. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Saskatchewan (1405 Faulkner Cres, Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5).
