John, age 97, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at St. Ann’s Home. He was born, the youngest son to Clement and Caroline (nee Ehrmantraut) Fischer on May 25, 1922. Dad farmed on the homestead, south of Macklin, SK and married Madeline Schmidt on June 22, 1943. To this reunion 5 children were born. They moved to Unity in 1966 and worked as a carpenter and drove the school bus. In 1971 they moved to Saskatoon and he worked at the Sheraton Cavalier as the maintenance man. He loved music, dancing, travelling, fishing and yard work. Dad was a loving and kind father who was devoted to his family. He was very committed to his faith and always trusted in God. May you rest in peace. John is dearly loved and remembered by his children Elsie Scheck, Norbert (Eileen), Norma Dyck-Bast (Ken), Jim (Fern) and Randy (Barb), 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law Angeline Fischer and Joyce and Mary Schmidt, as well as numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Madeline, grandson Brett, 2 sons-in-law Francis Scheck and Myron Dyck, 2 brothers Joe (Odelia) and Pete (Rose) Fischer. The Vigil for John will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30. The Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1. Both services will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (3339 Centennial Dr.) in Saskatoon with Rev. Father David Tumback as Celebrant. Following the reception, the Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery.
