MICHAYLUK, Julian Orest
The passing of Julian Michayluk, of Saskatoon, SK, occurred suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at home, at the age of 85 years. Julian took an early retirement in 1995 from a career dedicated to teaching and education in which he excelled and inspired many students, starting teaching in a one-room schoolhouse and finishing as a full professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He was an original hipster, way ahead of his time, acting and singing in many plays, playing guitar and enjoying music and enjoying painting especially at Candle Lake. He defied the odds to survive a tough cancer 13 years ago that added constraints to his enjoyment of good food and wine but didn’t take away his deep, quiet love for family. Julian is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Ann, his sons David (Stephen Burt) and Robert, his daughter Tanya (Quinn Conacher), his grandchildren Aidan and Hudson Conacher, and his sister, Anne Slicker as well as his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Helen Michayluk, his sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Joe Bahniuk, and his brother-in-law, Carl Slicker. The Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (1202 11th St. E.) in Saskatoon. The Celebrant will be Fr. Michael Smolinski, CSsR.The Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julian’s name to the Royal University Hospital Foundation (103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8) would be appreciated.
