Mickey passed away peacefully with her family at her side on the Royal University Hospital neurology unit. She was born to Alex and Anne Schewaga on a beautiful homestead in the district of Cudworth. She married Orest Chernesky on October 23, 1955 and settled in Saskatoon to raise two children, Ric and Shelli. As the matron of the family, Mickey’s talents influenced all aspects of daily living. Her loving ways and kind words enhanced fun times and helped others through hardships. She was selfless, always putting others first. Therapy included her cooking that was influenced by her Ukrainian heritage, sharing of research articles of which vitamins and foods were better for you, along with watching a VHS movie in the basement with her famous rhubarb slush. Mickey loved her family and all the exciting adventures they shared together that included summers at the Wakaw Lake cabin. She loved gardening, canning, crocheting, riding her bike, playing cards, and shopping….especially in the USA where her children lived after graduating college. She loved to travel and visit churches in other cities. Mickey was a lady of faith and an active member of her church congregation. “If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, place them in my mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss on her cheek, and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there’s an ache in my heart that will never do away. Love you Mommy!” Author Unknown
