RAE,  Ramona “Monie” Lillian

May 29, 1939 – July 3, 2018

Ramona Lillian Rae passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the age of 79 years.  Ramona, of Marean Lake, Saskatchewan was predeceased by her husband John and parents Lawrence and Gladys Gaetz (Newton) of Humboldt, Saskatchewan and by her youngest son Darrell Gavin Rae.  Ramona will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her eldest son Dr. Randall Rae (Gary Lewis) of Vancouver and her daughter Danielle (Gary) Polishak of Saskatoon and her four grandchildren Jonathon (Joey) Polishak of Hope, Michael Polishak of Vancouver,  Kimberly-Rae Saunders (Mike) of Regina, and Todd Polishak (Shawna McGimpsey) of Saskatoon.  Ramona leaves behind four great grandchildren, Isobel, Severyn, Liam and Winston along with her sister Sharon (Jack) Woulfe also of Marean Lake. Ramona will be missed by her several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and really all who met her in Canada and in Mexico.  Ramona, or "Monie" as everyone called her, was born in Humboldt May 29, 1939 and spent a great deal of her childhood in different parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta.  Ramona was a member of the Regina Kiwanis Club as well as the Kiwanians, took part in the Adult band and loved to travel. After retirement Ramona and John travelled to warmer climates in the winter months and eventually bought a home in Puerto Escondido, Mexico in 1991. Ramona continued to travel through the winters to Puerto Escondido after John had passed. Hobbies over the years included macrame, painting, ceramics, sewing, playing guitar and saxophone and she was always in the kitchen baking. As an adult Ramona took swimming lessons in an attempt and keep up to her children as they spent so much time at Marean Lake. Monie loved a good burger.  So much so that she opened “ Ramona’s Fine Foods” at Marean Lake, SK.   People came from miles for the 1/2 pound “Skiers Special “ with fries and milkshakes made with real ice cream and fried chicken that would make the Colonel blush.  Ramona's broad smile and warm laughter filled the room. We are all better off for the opportunity to have known her and will carry her in our memories forever.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society (#2, 706 Duchess St, Saskatoon, SK S7K 0R3).  The family would also like to thank all the paramedics for their valiant efforts and compassion.  A Celebration of Monie’s Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon – wheelchair accessible).  Arrangements are in care of Aime Laventure – Mourning Glory (306) 978-5200 www.mourningglory.ca
