Roger Lee McCallum

September 12, 1936 – July 4, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Roger Lee McCallum on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. It was an unexpected but peaceful passing at his home with his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret. Roger was born and raised in Saskatoon. His whirlwind romance with “Marg” began over the phone in 1953 when she was a Sasktel telephone operator. They spoke on the phone daily while he serenaded her for over 6 months till they finally met in person on Christmas day that same year. Their first official date was at the Roxy Theatre on New Years Day 1954 and they have been together ever since. They raised three children; Craig (Colette), David (Sherry) and Carrie (Milan). He was so proud of his 7 grandchildren; Lindsay (Chris), Riley (Jordi), Amanda (Josh), Kara (Derek), Brady (Kirsten), Ryan and Jonathan. His joy grew with the addition of 7 great-grandchildren with one more, still on the way. Roger was extremely successful in his lengthy career in transportation and logistics. He was honoured by being inducted into the Saskatchewan Transportation Hall of Fame. Anyone who knew him, knew music was an important part of his life. He was an accomplished musician, had a wonderful singing voice and he and Mom would dance up a storm till the wee hours, every chance they got. Great was the love they shared. Roger was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, surviving is his one sister. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street). Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
