Sharon Elaine Nelson

March 21, 1942 ~ August 6, 2017

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Sharon Elaine Nelson who died peacefully in her Saskatoon home on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Born on the first day of spring, March 21, 1942 in Regina to Jack and Leonie Bell, Sharon was the oldest of four children. She grew up in East End and Maple Creek, attending high school in Regina where she met the love of her life, Thomas Patrick (Pat) Nelson. Sharon and Pat married on September 29, 1962 and had three beloved children, Shauna, Trevor and Erin. Over the years, Sharon and Pat lived in Carrot River, Regina, Maple Creek, Christopher Lake and Melville before settling in Saskatoon. Sharon had a satisfying career working for the Saskatoon Health Region Home Care Services before retiring in 1998. In her retirement, she dedicated herself to working at the Ronald McDonald House, a cause close to her heart having lost her daughter Shauna to childhood leukemia. Over the 15 years she volunteered at the House, she was instrumental in developing programs to raise funds and support families. Sharon will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 54 years, Pat Nelson; her children Trevor (Kim) and Erin (David); her grandson, Jackson; her sisters Barbara (Soup), Linda (Norman); and her nephew, Daniel as well as many family members. Sharon cultivated deep friendships across the province, many of whom became part of her family. Sharon was predeceased by her parents Jack and Leonie Bell (née Locke), brother, James Bell and her beloved daughter, Shauna Lee. There was always a hug and a smile for everyone invited into Sharon’s welcoming home. Sharon taught us to live with grace and humour, to be committed to family and friends and to love deeply. Her generosity of spirit and strength of character made her a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend but above all she was a beautiful lady. Sharon’s family would like to express our deep gratitude to her friends and the Home Care Palliative Caregivers who supported Mom and Dad in her last year. Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at  7:00 p.m. at Greenbrier Golf and Country Club. Arrangements are in care of John Schachtel of Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200
