MIAZGA, Simon Thaddeus John

October 26, 1941 - April 14, 2018

With immense gratitude, we thank God for the chance to have had Simon in our lives and regret to announce his passing in Saskatoon after a brief illness.

Simon was born on the family farm near Brookby, SK; the youngest of 10 children, he grew up surrounded by a massive family that hasn’t stopped growing yet. Family gatherings and reunions were always enormous and one heck of a party; Simon loved that and never missed a chance to take part; he’d show no mercy in a good water fight and loved to pull out his guitar to sing and jam with his talented extended family.

Simon attended St. Pius X Seminary for a few years then met and married his first wife, Mary Ann (Kalinocha) in 1967; both became teachers and spent their summers travelling and camping before 4 children came along, but this didn’t slow them down much; he loved a good road trip and put a lot of miles on the road. Simon left teaching to start Miazga Construction with 3 of his brothers, and here he toiled until retirement.

Simon was lucky to love twice: his mid-life blessing with Erika (Wasylowich) gave him much joy and the chance to grow his family even more; he and Erika discovered warm winters and warm friends in Yuma, AZ, and their ‘dance-card’ was filled with much. With his guitar, Simon played for church, countless weddings and any reason at all; he showed us how to swing a hammer and then some; he loved golfing, skiing, a good game of Kaiser, and you never saw a greener thumb…his gardens were lush. Simon was full of faith and a modest guy; he never met a pickle he didn’t like so it only seems fitting he requested his remains just get ‘put in a pickle jar’; we’ll honour that wish and look forward to canning season where we’ll ‘raise a dill’ to toast his wonderful life.

Simon will be remembered fondly by his wife Erika; children Rosalie (Brent) Hnatick (Marianne, Alea), Rebecca (Terry) Rock (Simon, Noah, Juliana), Paul (Olia Bondarenko) (Polina, Mischa) and Michael (Annelie) (Nikolai, Xander, Xenia); stepchildren Darrell (Karen Sinclair) Wasylowich (Cody, Kyle), Don (Rhonda) Wasylowich (Angela, Nathan) & Carla (Rob) Arkley; special niece Karla (Jim) McGregor; sister Mary Kaminski and countless family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Ann and again, countless family and friends.

The Vigil for Simon will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave. S) in Saskatoon, SK. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Pl.) in Saskatoon, SK.

Gratitude: compassion and care of staff at St. Paul’s Hospital ICU and Yuma Medical Center, cousin Julie Randall (an angel among us), and for everyone’s hugs and prayers.

Donations in Simon’s honour may be made to St. John Bosco Camp or to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation.
