REHMAN, Sister Anne Marie, OSU
Sister Anne Marie Rehman, OSU (Prelate) was called into eternal life on Friday, May 10 at St. Paul's Hospital at 89 years of age. Daughter of Frank and Mary (Schultz) Rehman, she was born at Macklin, SK on December 28, 1929, the oldest of seven children in a happy and close-knit family. After completing her elementary and Junior High education at Meadowland and Macklin schools, she attended St. Angela’s Academy at Prelate, SK and entered the Ursuline congregation in 1948, taking the name of Sister Norbertine. For most of her 71 years in religious life she served as a multi-talented and dedicated home manager in numerous Ursuline residences primarily in Shaunavon, Prelate, Yorkton, Swift Current and Saskatoon. Wherever she lived, she sang in the church choir and was an active CWL member. She deeply cherished the opportunity to make a Thirty Day retreat in Spokane in 1978. After taking Gerontology and pastoral studies in Winnipeg and Ottawa, she engaged in ministry with the sick and shut-ins in Shaunavon for 23 years. When the convent in Shaunavon closed in 2002, the parishioners of Christ the King Parish honored her with a celebration in gratitude for her many years of loving and joyful service in their midst. After eight years of varied community service at St. Angela’s Academy, Sister Anne Marie retired to Saskatoon where she joined the CWL and sang in the choir at St. Francis Parish. She continued to foster her cherished dream of playing the piano and blessed all who knew her with her prayerful and joyful presence. She maintained her warm-hearted nature, her spirit of gratitude and her sense of humor even during her final illness. Sister Anne Marie did manage to see places outside the province of Saskatchewan where she ministered for the greater part of her life. In 1983 she went on a trip to Florida and in 1989 she was blessed with a European Tour, which included Oberammergau and the Passion Play in Germany. During the Holy Year of 2000, Sister Anne Marie and her two companion Sisters, Sister Rosalyn Miller and Sister Pauline Reinhardt celebrated their 50th anniversary of profession with a tour of the Mainland Maritime Provinces. Her memory is gratefully cherished by her Ursuline Sisters, her sisters Elsie Locher, Hilda Sliva, Hertha Broschok, Margaret McNarland and her brother Carl as well as sister-in-law, Ann and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father in 1986, her mother in 1994, her brother Herman, her sister-in-law, Irma (Carl) and her brothers-in-law, Ernie Locher, Mike Sliva, Frank Broschok and Murray McNarland. The family and the Ursuline Sisters are grateful to all who cared for, ministered to, and watched and waited with Sister Anne Marie, especially in her last days with us. A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Both services will be held at St. Angela Merici Residence, 125 Cree Crescent, Saskatoon, SK. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Prelate Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are invited to contribute to the Ursuline Mission of Education by donating to St. Angela's Academy Foundation, at 305 Hilliard St. E., Saskatoon, SK, S7J 0E5.
