MICHALYCIA, Walter “Wally”

February 19, 1934 - June 4, 2019

With great sadness and heartbreak we announce the unexpected passing of our husband, father, brother and friend, Walter Joseph “Wally” Michalycia. He was born on a farm at Yellow Creek, SK, the 7th of 12 children born to Joe and Dora Michalycia. This is where he also attended school. In 1952 Wally moved to Saskatoon and began working at Cindercrete Products. In 1962 he married Darlene Hanson and was married 57 years on June 2, 2019. Laurie Elaine and Leanne Lyn were his pride and joy who added fulfillment to his life. He worked various jobs but worked 34 years as bulk truck driver for Dairy Producers Co-op. He and his brothers formed 4M Construction and built many homes in the city. He designed the house of his dreams on a restaurant napkin where he was able to reside until the end. He and Darlene formed "In Stitches" doing upholstery for many years. His extreme passion was gospel music and operating sound for jamborees, Kountry Sonshine and at Elim Church. He was a great handyman and could fix anything ... if he couldn't fix it, it wasn't fixable. Left to mourn his loss, yet celebrate his life are his wife Darlene; daughters Laurie and Leanne (Kevin Korczak); brother Mike (Anne); sisters Jennie Leask and Dianna; sisters-in-law Olga and Linda (Eldrid); brother-in-law Dale Hanson (Linda); as well as many nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents; parents-in-law; 2 brothers, 6 sisters and their spouses. Many thanks to neighbours, paramedics and staff at RUH for their wonderful care. A Visitation will be held from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 at Mourning Glory Funeral Services (1201 8th St. E.). A Celebration of Wally’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10 at Elim Church (419 Slimmon Rd.) in Saskatoon. The Burial will take place prior to the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
