William "Bill" Mazurkewich
William “Bill” Mazurkewich passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 while at home with family at the age of 96. Bill was born on April 24, 1921 to Joseph and Eva (nee Kut) Mazurkewich on the family farm near Meacham, SK. He was the 8th of 9 boys. As a young man, he supported the farm during the war years as he was given a compassionate discharge from the Canadian Military. He later travelled to St. Catherine’s, ON to work in the factories. In 1948, Bill returned to SK and fell in love with the neighbour farm girl, Mary Korol. On July 17, 1949 he married Mary and they were blessed with three children: Ken, Bev and Donna. The family spent numerous hours gardening, fishing, traveling and playing cards. During this time, Bill also established a 30 + year career with Federated Co-op from which he retired in 1986. After his retirement, he took up his favourite job as Geido to his six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. When he wasn’t with family, Bill could be found either at the curling rink, bowling alley or in the coffee shop with friends. Bill was also an active member of the St. Paul’s Co-Cathedral community where he and Mary were parishioners since 1952. Through the years, he served as an usher, member of parish council and later served as Grand Knight for Knights of Columbus Council 1517. The family fondly remembers countless K of C steak nights, pancake breakfasts, bingos and home lotteries where Bill was always around to lend a helping hand. Bill is survived by his daughters, Bev and Donna (James Adams); grandchildren Heather (Travis Cahill), Trevor, Calysta (Logan Priddy), Devon (Teagan Oleksyn), Nathan and Ian; great-grandchildren Finnegan and Calder; sisters-in-law Alice Mazurkewich and Helen Korol; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
