Obituary

RILEY, William “Bill”

August 2, 1928 – October 24, 2019

It is with deep sadness, but also with joy, that we celebrate a life well-lived. William “Bill” Riley passed away on October 24, 2019, after suffering a massive heart attack. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 64 years Iris (nee Kucey); and daughters Audrey (Murray Gould) and Ann (Andy Iwanchuk). His three grandchildren, Lauren Gould (Breton Turanich), Derek Gould, and Jaclyn St. Denis (Mitch Hewison) brought him an abundance of joy and pride. He also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Adele Danyliuk; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Mae Curtis, Lillian Jefferson, Marjorie Johnston, Audrey Bentley; his brother and sister-in-law Jim and Carol Riley; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Natalie Kucey; and his brother-in-law Michael Danyliuk. Bill was born on August 2, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Saskatoon. As a youth, he was very active in sports, with a particular love of hockey. He worked for many years at CP Rail, then went into sales, and eventually became an entrepreneur, owning and operating Hollywood Underfashions and AudriAnn Cruise and Leisure Wear until his retirement. Following his retirement, Bill continued to enjoy sales, travelling to different flea markets around the province to sell his goods. He was always interested in investigating new business ventures. Bill loved his family – he was so very proud of his kids and grandkids and he looked forward to every moment we could all be together. Bill was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish and just last Sunday, we celebrated their 100th anniversary at which he was so proud to be recognized as the longest serving parishioner. He and his sister Audrey regularly sang at weddings and funerals, and he had been involved with the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, choir member, usher, and the Back Door Ministry - serving sandwiches to those who are vulnerable and need support. Although Bill was 91, this is a shock to our family. He was always so youthful and healthy. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at RUH for their efforts to save him. They were caring and compassionate and we will always be grateful. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church (211 Avenue O South, Saskatoon, SK). The Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Fr. Mick Fleming, C.Ss.R. A Private Family Interment will be held at a later date.
