Obituary

PETKAU, Cecil Arthur

December 9, 1934 – May 20, 2020

Cecil passed away at the age of 85. Cecil was predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys Petkau whom he loved dearly and always referred to as his sweetie. He was also predeceased by his parents, Abe and Olga, step-mum Mabel and brother Glen (Marsha). Cecil is loved and remembered by his daughter, Bonnie (Jason Wise) Petkau-Wise of Warwickshire, England, brothers Maurice (Shirley), Todd (Carolyn), David (Sandi) and sister Sharon (Ken), as well as many nieces and nephews. Cecil grew up in and around Beechy, SK where he began his lifelong career as a mechanic. There was nothing that Cecil couldn’t fix and he was called upon by family and friends on a regular basis to look at their cars, farm machinery or anything that needed fixing. Cecil was also an avid fisherman and gardener and found great peace relaxing in his boat or digging and planting in his beautiful flowerbeds. Even though he didn’t drink, he had been in AA for well over 40 years. Cecil was an accomplished wine maker too and always enjoyed making wine for family and friends, especially his beloved wife, Gladys. In his many years of being in AA, Cecil helped mentor and guide numereous recovering alcoholics and on more than one occasion, helped save the life of someone in need. Cecil also spent many years as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers of Canada Federation, making lifelong connections with those he mentored. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. A special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and care staff at Royal University Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital for the care that was given to Cecil.
