PEREIRA, Efren Yuzon

Efren, age 78, passed peacefully at RUH ER surrounded by his loving family on January 27, 2020. The world lost an amazing person. He was predeceased by his parents Arsenia and Lorenzo Pereira. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Alguzar), 5 children, Priscilla (Garcia Brightley) Anthony, Hadlen Hanson (Teri Hong); and Torrell, Immarria Brightley; Efren Jr. (Zhenja Mikhaylova); Edzel (Michelle Chapman) Milan, Alayzsa; Eruzen (Diana Hunt) Mia, Gabby, Lara; Earl (The Steadies/Widemouth Mason). Efren is also survived by his sister Erlinda (Orlando Viloria Sr.) and several nieces and nephews. Born in Manila, Philippines June 18, 1941, Efren Yuzon Pereira’s journey began when he met his wife Betty. He was a multi-talented individual who excelled in academics, basketball, music, martial arts, chess and most of all as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Efren and his wife Elizabeth began building a family in the midst of civil unrest before he left for Canada to reunite with his sister in July 1974. Efren made many sacrifices while building a foundation to ensure his family would live a safer and better life. Working tirelessly to bring his family to Canada, Efren was also trying to grasp a new language. In September 1974, Efren had saved enough money to sponsor his entire family to Canada where Efren and Betty continued to raise their 5 children. Passing down his sage advice and musical talents to give his children an opportunity to thrive in a new country with a diverse culture. The most important things Efren has left behind are his values, great sense of humour, charm, compassion, kindness and teachings which will live on through every single person that knew him. Efren’s vision gives his family a life that few in the world are fortunate to have. He will be dearly missed but his legacy and passion will forever be in the hearts and minds of his family and closest friends. A special thanks to the Viloria family, the RUH ER staff and Mourning Glory Funeral Home for providing care and comfort during this difficult time. The Liturgy of the Word will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre Chapel (915 Acadia Dr.) in Saskatoon. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Rheal Bussiere.
