JOANIS, Evelyn Katherine
With sadness we announce the passing of Evelyn Joanis on February 2, 2020 at Sherbrooke Community Centre at the age of 87.
Evelyn was born in Terrace, BC in 1932. She was the eldest of three sisters. As a child, Evelyn moved multiple times with her family, as her father’s search for work took them to British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Evelyn married her first husband Jack, in 1951. They had three children, Edward, Fay and Ron over the nine years together before Jack passed away. Evelyn later met and married Jim Joanis and moved to St. Denis, a farming community 30 miles east of Saskatoon. Evelyn shared 46 years of marriage with Jim and was blessed with two more children, Mark and Suzanne.
After selling the farm Evelyn and Jim settled in Saskatoon in 1972. There she was an active member of her church and worked at the Hudson’s Bay store for 17 years. She enjoyed embroidery and ceramics and was an avid reader in her spare time. A few years after Jim’s passing Evelyn moved to Preston Park where she met many new friends. A fall resulted in her needing more supportive care which has been provided by Sherbrooke Community Centre. She passed away peacefully on February 2 and will be sorely missed by all the people she touched in her life, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Sherbrooke Community Centre Chapel (401 Acadia Dr.) in Saskatoon with Fr. Deyre Azcuna as Celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
