Obituary

Greg Callaghan

July 30, 1947 – July 5, 2021

It’s with sadness we announce that Greg Callaghan passed away peacefully on July 5, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Greg was predeceased by his parents Leo and Elizabeth, his brother Dennis and his sister Ella. Greg is survived by his wife Brenda as well as his children Paula (James) Kramchynsky, Chad Callaghan, Megean (Tyler) Moulds and Karen (Shawn) Penner. His grandchildren Kyle, Zach, Jaxson, Chloe, Ella, Sophie, Logan, Bodhi, Joshawa, Zakary, Olivia and great grandson Andre. He’s also survived by his sisters Terry (Bert) Servis, Mary Kobialko, Gen Callaghan and his brothers Martin (Gerry) Callaghan, Robert (Joan) Callaghan, Kevin (Nola) Callaghan and Tony Callaghan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Greg was born on, and grew up at the family farm near Meacham, SK and spoke fondly of his early years there with his large family – the days were filled with hard work but also with lots of music in the house and plenty of opportunities to get into trouble and make good memories with his siblings. After high school, Greg got a job painting elevators. He then went to work selling automotive parts and that remained his career until his retirement. He liked spending time outdoors and going hunting with his brothers. He loved touring the back roads of Saskatchewan listening to old country music and he (almost) never got lost. Greg did not like to sit still; he had a sense of adventure and liked to go on spontaneous road trips. He would try pretty much anything he was asked to try – curling, golfing, boxing, flag football were some of the sports he enjoyed over the years. He also always seemed to know exactly what time of day it was despite never wearing a watch. He enjoyed every opportunity to get together with friends or his large family. In recent years, he really enjoyed day trips out to the old homestead to have wiener roasts with his family. Greg was a true animal lover and could almost always be talked into adding a new pet into the family – he most definitely will be missed by his faithful furry companions Nina and Ralph.

As per Greg’s request there will be no funeral service, instead there will be a private gathering of his family at a later date.
