Krieg, Helen (nee Hildebrandt)

March 6, 1933 – June 5, 2020

Our beloved mom passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital after a brief journey with cancer. She was born in the Osler area, the daughter of Heinrich and Katherina Hildebrandt. She was the 11th child of 15 siblings. She met her husband Erwin Krieg, the love of her life, at Riversdale Pool. They made their home in Saskatoon where she resided throughout her life. They had five children who all remain in Saskatoon. Erwin and Helen loved camping and fishing until his passing in 1981. They travelled to Germany twice to visit his family. Helen enjoyed her job at the Genetics Lab at the U of S. She used her creativity to make special birthday cakes for her grandchildren, and various crafts. Helen loved music. She sang in the choir at University Drive Alliance Church and got inspiration listening to Gospel music. She loved going out to eat with family and friends, shopping, and all manner of bling, which was really an outward expression of her own sparkle. She delighted in her family, whom she loved generously. We will lovingly remember her always and miss her great sense of humour, her feisty spirit, her zest for life, the large Christmas celebrations she hosted for family and extended family, her inclusive and open-hearted love of family and her unwavering faith in God. Although 87 years old, her spirit remained young to the end. She is survived by her five children: Eric (Lisa), Gary (Kerrie), Patti Ratzlaff (Brent), Cheri, Quinten (Tammy), as well as grandchildren: Graham (Rebecca), Stephen (Becky), Erica Gibault (Brad), Chesley (Jocelyn), Chelsea Guebert (Brian), Kimberley Boldt (Derek), Chad Ratzlaff, Austin, and great-grandchildren: Sophie, Cosette, Eden, Myelle, Hadley, Nelia, Jonah, Ian, Remy, Elsie, Jacob, Thomas, Braelynn, Oaklynn, Esme. She was predeceased by her husband, Erwin, her parents and all her siblings. We are comforted by thoughts of her joy being with Jesus, and reunited with Erwin. Due to the current restrictions in our province, her family gathered for a Graveside Memorial on Friday, June 12.
