John Schachtel has worked in the funeral profession for 30 years. He is originally from Humboldt and after apprenticing with Scharf's Funeral Home went on to work in or manage funeral homes in Foam Lake, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Spiritwood and Saskatoon, opening Mourning Glory Funeral Services on November 1, 2002. John has been dedicated to serving families for the last 25 years in Saskatoon. He is loved and appreciated because of his personal touch, his professionalism, and his genuine compassion.
David Schurr joined Mourning Glory in November 2010. He brought 29 years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director Embalmer in Saskatoon. David is a member of the Saskatoon Nutana Lions Club and Mystic Tie Lodge #213. Families appreciate his friendliness and his care and attention to detail.
Mourning Glory is able to offer funeral services at a lower cost because its overhead is low. Services are held out of churches, halls, or other suitable facilities which are meaningful to the family. Windsor Chapel is also available for funeral services or gatherings. Another cost saving factor is that Mourning Glory does not lease or own a fleet of limousines, as only 5% of the families they have served have requested this service. However, limousines can be rented in cases where they are desired. Instead of limousines, Mourning Glory offers the use of a shuttle bus for family and or pallbearers, or the rental of city buses which makes travel to and from the cemetery much easier, especially in cold weather. Mourning Glory operates with white coaches and a white lead car.
